While abroad in southeastern France, Emma Craft shot our classic erotic jewelry in an ochre field called Roussillon. Here she answers some questions about her inspiration and work thus far.

When did you start taking photos?
I have been taking photos for awhile, I mean who didn’t steal their parents cameras and take random photos of vacations? I started to take photography seriously while in high school. I would wander in fields and dress up my friends and take their photos. I have definitely grown since those days, LOL.
Who or what inspired you to pursue photography?
Honestly my dad is what inspired me to pursue photo. I still have his Canon film camera I shoot with that has a sticker on the bottom with a rose on it with his old address, I keep that camera close to me.

How did you choose the location for this shoot?
Right now I am studying in the south of France at my school’s campus (SCAD) in Lacoste, France. Close to me is the natural ochre fields of Roussillon. This area is filled with yellow and red sand and looks other-worldy. I knew right away I needed to shoot there while in the south and Unbound gave me the perfect reason to do it!! Especially since the silvers and golds looked so nicely against that sand.
Are there any specific themes you like to focus on in your photography? If so, what are they?
One main theme I tend to stick to is Baroque period colors and themes. One painter I am inspired by is Fragonard, who painted with beautiful pastels and carried on soft themes throughout his work.

What do you use to shoot?
So I have five or six cameras I shoot with–mostly film–so this question is always hard to answer. I prefer film. My Canon Ae-1. For this shoot, though, I shot with my Canon 6D camera, my second go-to. Although, I did shoot some film and am waiting for the film to be developed so I can scan in the photos from this shoot!
