What IS Buff?

Buff is a personal silicone lubricant, for penile, anal and/or vaginal application, intended to moisturize and lubricate, to enhance the ease and comfort of intimate sexual activity and supplement the body’s natural lubrication. Buff is compatible with natural rubber latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms.

What is a silicone lubricant? 

The base of a lubricant, aka the foundation of a lubricant, can be made of water, oil, or silicone — like Buff. Each type of lubricant has its uses, and everyone definitely has their own preferences, but there are limitations and benefits to each! But now, on to Buff: 

Buff is made from 3 simple ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, and Dimethiconol. Together, these ingredients create a blend that's lightweight on application but long-wearing over time.

• Cyclopentasiloxane — A lightweight, fast-spreading silicone that gives the lubricant its silky, non-greasy initial feel. It helps the product glide on smoothly.

• Dimethicone — A heavier-weight silicone that provides the long-lasting slip and cushioning the product is known for.

• Dimethiconol — A silicone that adds a smoother, more conditioning finish to the texture, helping the formula feel silky rather than tacky.

How do I use Buff?

However you want! Apply a few drops of Buff to wherever you want a little more slickness — on your body, on a partner, or on a toy (as long as its NOT a silicone toy). Buff is very slick, so we recommend starting with a little and adding more as you need it.

What makes Buff unique?

Buff stands out for its rich, thick texture, quality ingredients, and long-lasting performance. It's also hypoallergenic and free of the sugars or glycerins found in some water-based lubes, which can be gentler for sensitive skin.

How is Buff different from Jolt or Jelly? 

The biggest difference is its formula. As stated above, Buff is a silicone lubricant, whereas Jelly and Jolt are water-based. Depending on your preferences, and your intended use, you may want to use one over the other. We laid out the differences in detail here, but we'll summarize the main points below!

Since Buff is silicone-based, it is highly viscous and longer-lasting than compared to a water-based formula. That's because silicone is hydrophobic, or water-repellant, meaning it does not dissolve in water. This makes silicone lubricants like Buff great for penetrative or partnered sex, because you don't have to reapply the lubricant as often.

A water-based formula like Jelly is all-purpose, and you can use it solo, with a partner, and with toys. Due to its water-based formula, Jelly evaporates faster than Buff. This can create a sticky or tacky feeling that some dislike for penetrative or partnered sex.

Jolt is also water-based, but we do not recommend you use it as a lubricant. Jolt is a stimulating gel meant to increase sensitivity in targeted areas like the clitoris, nipple or any other erogenous zones. If you're looking for overall lubricants, stick with Buff or Jelly.

While we love our silicone lubricant and silicone toys, the two DO NOT play well together — literally. Silicone degrades silicone, so using a silicone lubricant like Buff with a silicone toy like Puff or Pogo will damage the product. If you want to use lubricant, with your toys, a water-based lubricant like Jelly is the way to go! 

How do you clean Buff off of surfaces?

Clean Buff off of surfaces with soap and water. Because of its longevity and durability, silicone lubricant can be more difficult to wash off and can stain fabric. It's important to fully wash off silicone lubricant after use because it can harbor bacteria if not cleaned properly. Clean fabrics with soap and water soon after contact with Buff. 

What does it mean for a lubricant to be "waterproof?" 

Buff is hydrophobic, meaning it repels water. When a lubricant repels water, it doesn't mix with or dissolve in it, meaning it doesn't wash away or lose its slickness in the bath or shower. ;) 

What materials are compatible with Buff?

Buff can be used with glass, hard plastic or metal toys, like our glass dildos, Stellar and Gemini, or Flick, our metal vibrator ring. Buff is also compatible with natural rubber latex, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms. Do not use Buff on silicone surfaces. Clean with soap and water after contact with fabrics to prevent staining.
